Gayà reaches 350 official appearances for Valencia CF
The club captain moves level with legend Amedeo Carboni
This past Saturday in the win against Getafe CF, José Luis Gayà, reached the milestone of 350 official matches for Valencia CF. In doing so, he equaled the appearances made by Amedeo Carboni for the club.
ayà joined the VCF Academy at the age of 11 and first came to prominence as part of VCF Mestalla. His consistent performances and work-rate earned him an official first-team debut on October 30th, 2012, in a Copa del Rey win against UE Llagostera.
On October 20th, 2015 he celebrated his 50th appearance in a game against KAA Gent. Four years later, in 2019, he hit the 150-game mark against SD Huesca. Match number 250 was, curiously enough, also against Getafe CF on February 27, 2021.
Gayà is the second youngest player to reach this total for Valencia CF, at 28 years of age and 289 days old. Ahead of him is Fernando Gómez Colomer, who made his 350th appearance at 27 years and 239 days old.
In total, Gayà has played 285 games in LALIGA, 34 in the Copa del Rey, 18 in the Champions League, 11 in the Europa League and 2 in the Spanish Supercopa.
Family Surprise
The entire Valencia CF squad was waiting for him at the Antonio Puchades to surprise him, applaud him and present him with a tremendously special shirt for his milestone achievement. A reflection of the family headed by Rubén Baraja, who together strive to achieve the best results for the club. Gayà is a mirror in which to look at the youngsters who defend the Valencia CF badge today. Trained at the VCF Academy and a legend in the Valencia CF first team, representing the values that have distinguished the Club during their 105-year history.
Upcoming challenges
Having surpassed legends such as Vicente, Marchena, Sol, Mendieta, Puchades, Waldo, Pasieguito, Voro and Mundo, he is just four games away from matching Vicente Asensi and Javier Subirats, both of whom accumulated 354.
Once he surpasses them, he will set his sights on Juan Ramón Santiago (358), Rubén Baraja (362) and Ángel Castellanos (363), although at the top of the all-time chart are David Albelda (485), Ricardo Arias (521) and Fernando (553).
